What are we ?

Return to the IEC Home Page

The International Committee (IC) is a non-profit organization with the sole purpose of promoting good relationships between the U.S. and the international students and their families, assisting with adaptation to American life and supporting international students and their families when needed and where possible. All international students attending the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), their spouses and the sponsors of international students and their spouses are considered members of the NPS-IC.

The IC is a separate organization from the International Programs Office and is administered by the International Executive Committee (IEC). The IEC is presided by the U.S. and the International Co-Chairpersons, and consists of Treasurer, Secretary, Furniture Locker, Hospitality, Language, Publicity, Family, Social and Cultural Chairpersons, who are elected by the members of the NPS-IC. If you would like to take part in the IC activities please contact one of our members of the IEC.

In order to help International Students' integration and to allow them to meet new friends, the IC promotes many social events such as: Valentines Party (February); the International Day (May); International Picnic (August); Halloween Party (October); Christmas Party (December); and many others. Also each other month, there is a Wives Come Together hosted by one of the many countries here at the NPS. This event is a wonderful opportunity for all the wives to spend some time together, to learn about another country, and to have a taste of each country's culinary specialties. The International Committee provides new students a welcome packet that contains useful things for their first days in Monterey. The IC also provides furniture for rent from furniture locker for a nominal fee. The furniture locker is open every other Monday between 4:00pm and 5:00pm.

The international students and their sponsors hear about the IC activities via electronic mail (e-mail) and this homepage.
